Outdoor screen printed stickers can last for 2-7 years ,detail depends on type of screen printing,ink type,material and the usage environment for the stickers.
Indoor lifespan vs outdoor lifespan of silk screen printing
- Indoor : screen printing span lasts for 5-10 years and more.
- Outdoor: normal screen printing span lasts for 3 months – 1 year
- UV resistant screen printing lasts for 3-7 years and more.
So screen printing lifespan depends on where your die cut stickers are used for ? If you use UV resistant ink or not ? Normal screen ink cannot stay outside,and will fade in a short time. If your sticker sheets are used outdoors,please choose UV resistant ink and material .
Several factors that affect the lifespan of screen printing
1.Ink type (outdoor-grade vs standard ink)
Normal screen printing ink ≠ outdoor UV resistant and weatherproof ink,outdoor grad ink adds some UV inhibitors,so UV resistant screen printing stickers can last for 3-7 years.Normal standard ink only suitable for indoor,not good for outdoor,they will fade in 3 months or 6 months.
2.Material / substrate
Outdoor standard material is vinyl ,PET,PC,reflective,metal ,and other coated material ,all this material has a strong adhesive,but lifespan is different.
- Calendered vinyl lifespan: 1-2 years
- Cast grades vinyl lifespan: 2-5 years
- PET lifespan : 1-2 years
- PC lifespan: 3-5 years

3.Ink layer thickness
Screen printing ink layer is thick ,so screen printing lifespan is longer than other printing ways ,but more thickness is better,it is not ,but thin ink must not be good .
4.Screen mesh & printing angle
High screen mesh count ,less ink passes through open mesh to substrate ; low screen mesh count,more ink passes through open mesh to substrate. So we use screen mesh count to control the ink layers.Patterns or fonts printed with a low mesh count will have jagged edges. So Liyantian chose a 350-420 mesh count to print car stickers,making sure the vinyl car stickers are color stable,UV resistant and waterproof for 3-7 years.
5.Drying & curing method
Outdoor screen printing inks are categorized into two types: air-drying and UV-curing.
- Air-drying inks: 3-7 years
- UV-curing inks: 1-2 years

6.Environment exposure
Under identical ink and material conditions, the lifespan of outdoor stickers varies depending on their environment.
- Direct Sunlight (UV Exposure): UV radiation is the primary cause of fading and aging in car decals. The longer the exposure to sunlight, the faster the fading occurs. Red hues fade first, turning yellow, which then fades to white.
- Saltwater/High Temperature/High Humidity: Prolonged exposure to saltwater, high temperatures, or high humidity causes materials to age and become brittle. Cast vinyl is recommended for such environments.
- Abrasion, Friction & Frequent Handling: Frequent friction damages the ink layer. Regular cleaning shortens sticker lifespan as detergents soften the ink layer or cause discoloration. High-pressure washing may cause stickers to peel.
For boat decals and truck decals intended for long-term use, industrial labels should be laminated with a protective film to extend their service life.
Screen printing vs digital printing lifespan
Screen printing: screen printing ink with UV inhibitors,and screen printing ink layer is thick,so screen printing lifespan lasts for 3-7 years.
Digital printing: digital printing ink also with some weak UV inhibitors,and printing ink is thin,so digital printing lifespan lasts for 6 months – 1 years.

Why do some screen printed stickers fade much faster than others?
Because normal standard screen printing does not have a UV resistant function,even if the ink layer is thick,the logo stickers will fade in a short time ,especially for red and yellow color ,they will fade to white color in 3 months-6 months.
Another reason is material ,container decals must choose outdoor material ,indoor material will be broken in a short time. Some stickers will fall down from cars or machines causing high temperatures,some stickers will damage after one year,because indoor materials cannot withstand the harsh conditions of outdoor environments.
This is why different manufacturers offer varying prices, because they use different printing machines, printing methods, materials, and inks.
